The evolution of Taylor Swift

Taylor Alison Swift, the 31 one-year-old American singer is taking over the chart for the last 11 years. In 2020, she was awarded AMA’s Artist of the decade, Billboard’s first-ever woman of the Decade, and Brits awards Golden Icon award in 2021. Let us see the Journey of the Country singer to one of the biggest pop singers in the world. At the age of 11, Taylor Swift started her musical career by Moving to Nashville from Pennsylvania. At the age of 14, though she did not get a record deal from any company at that time, she got signed at Sony ATV as the youngest songwriter. There she co-wrote songs with many famous artists.

Taylor Swift landed with a record deal with the now “Big machine Company”. When Taylor joined as a part of the Big machine label, the label was just started by Scott Borchetta.

Taylor’s debut album “Taylor Swift” was released in 2006, with 11 songs in the standard edition. Her first even song Tum Mcgraw was from her debut album. Her debut album was ranked 19 among Billboard’s 200 and it sold 40,000 copies in the first week. During her debut, Swift was only 17 years old.

Her second studio album “Fearless” because huge in the history of country music. Release in 2008, consisting of 13 songs in the standard edition, fearless got awarded The Album of the Year award and Best Country Album in the Grammy’s. She also received the Best female music video award from VMA’S for the music video of “You belong with me”. Taylor Swift’s fearless brought her massive commercial success and made her one of the biggest artists in the genre of country music in the 2010s. It charted on Billboard 200 for about 11 weeks and was the best-selling album of 2009. Fearless was a country-pop and Taylor’s Breakthrough album for the biggest country singer of her generation. The commercial success of Fearless was massive. Fearless was certified Diamond, and as of 2021, it has sold more than 7 million copies.

Taylor’s third album “Speak Now” released in 2010 was the first album where all the songs were solely writing by swift without a co-writer. It can be stated that “Speak Now” is the Album made by the youngest solo artist all alone. Speak now Album was also a country-pop. Her song “Mean” from the album won “Best Country song” and Rolling Stone Magazine features the album “Speak Now” in their list of “50 Best Female Albums of All Time”.4 songs from the album reached the top 10 in Billboard top 100. Taylor’s 4th studio album “Red” was an album solely based on her breakup experience. As Swift is known for writing songs about her love experiences from a very young age, she has been constantly critiqued in the media for choosing her way of creating her art.

The single “I knew you were trouble” was a track from the album which was more inclined towards the pop side of music. Red was in fact a lyrical masterpiece created by swift when she was only 22 years old. Although the album was a country genre, it laid out the foundation of her next album which became one of the mainstream pop albums of the decade.

Taylor Swift’s 5th studio album 1989 was a massive success. This was Swift’s peak era with the genre of the album being Pop music and its variations. 1989 was released in 2014 and instantly topped the charts for days. 1989 is a certified diamond in the U.S, Canada, and Australia. The singles of 1989 like Bad Blood, blank space, wildest dreams. In the first week, 1.2 million copies of 1989 were sold.

The music videos of Blank Space, Shake it off and Bad Blood has over a billion views in their official music videos. 1989 was huge, and it even outsold Coldplay’s Ghost stories in 2014. The standard edition contains around 13 songs, and the deluxe edition contains 3 more songs along with 3 demos of the songs. The album has much influence of synth-pop influence. 1989 has 10 Grammy nominations and won 3 Grammys for Album Of The Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Music Video for “Bad Blood. Taylor Swift was the first woman in history to win Album.
